A beautiful and highly wearable Victorian 9ct rose gold book chain necklace, dating from the late 19th century.

The necklace is formed from elegant articulated book-style links, each with a softly scalloped edge that catches the light beautifully. The warm rose gold has developed a lovely antique patina, giving the piece the character and charm you would expect from genuine Victorian jewellery.

The flexible construction allows the necklace to sit beautifully around the neckline, while the substantial book links give it a wonderful presence without feeling overly heavy. Finished with its original-style circular ring clasp and integral fittings, adding to its authentic antique character.

The necklace is stamped for 9ct gold.

Antique Madonna Pendant

A truly beautiful and unusual Edwardian pendant featuring a finely carved mother of pearl cameo depicting the Madonna, surrounded by a delicate border of natural diamonds and an elegant fringe of lustrous seed pearls.

The carved mother of pearl has a wonderfully serene Madonna portrait, with the natural iridescence of the shell giving the piece a soft, luminous quality. The cameo is framed by a finely detailed diamond-set surround, comprising numerous natural diamonds, adding a beautiful sparkle without detracting from the delicacy of the carving.

Encircling the pendant is a row of natural seed pearls, creating a particularly feminine and romantic finish. The combination of mother of pearl, diamonds and pearls is quintessentially Edwardian, reflecting the period’s love of delicate, intricate jewellery inspired by classical and religious imagery.

An especially charming piece of history can be found on the reverse. The back has been later engraved with initials and the date “18. III. 1939”, suggesting the pendant was given or marked to commemorate a significant occasion on that date. This personal inscription adds another layer of provenance and makes the piece feel wonderfully individual.
